Gunther Werks is pleased to unveil the next phase of the analog driving experience, in the form of
the 993 Speedster Remastered by Gunther Werks. Revealed for the first time, this open-top machine debuted at
The Quail, hosted at Quail Lodge & Golf Course in Carmel, California. Providing an exceptional analog driving
experience on any road or track, Gunther Werks developed a new open-air model that not only heightens the
experience with the rush of wind through your hair, but also pushes the boundaries of performance to build a
stronger, lighter, faster car. For its unveiling, the Speedster is presented in Cannes paint (provided by PPG Paints)
over Dawn Orange leather.
In revising the current 993 chassis to accommodate an open cockpit, Gunther Werks has taken extensive steps
to avoid the common side effect of eliminating the roof, which typically reduces torsional rigidity. Stiffening the
chassis has been extensively undertaken by employing advanced reinforcement (developed with Trevor Harris) in
the space where the coupe’s rear seat compartment was previously located. Now this area is sheltered by the new
carbon fiber Speedster top and tonneau cover. Integrating a new roll cage and roll hoop system not only improves
occupant safety, but also contributes to chassis stiffness. The Speedster now achieves 8,200 pounds of torsional
stiffness (compared to the Porsche 993 cabriolet’s 3,500 and the 993 coupe’s 5,200). Interior improvements
include a new carbon fiber dash panel and a new carbon fiber steering wheel.
