What car do you currently race?
This year I’ve been driving in the Volkswagen Challenge, driving last year’s Polo Cup car. The Polo Cup cars, just like the cars for the Clio Cup or the JWC Mini Challenge, are purpose-built race cars. The Polos were developed by Volkswagen motorsport and are based on a Polo shell but have all the good racing bits. They have a 165bhp 2,0 16v engine. Although they are front-wheel-drive cars, we set them up to be loose at the back so they slide around a bit. Which makes them extremely fun to drive.
What are your next professional challenges?
Like every young race driver, I’d love to race at Le Mans or Spa, but for me my wildest dream would be to race in V8 supercars one day, that’s where the real racing is. I know I’m a decent driver but there’s so much more I need to learn. But at the moment we have a more pressing issue because we had a crash with the Polo Cup car which broke the intercooler so the engine was damaged. So first we have to resolve this issue. We might even sell it and start racing classic cars. I don’t know yet, we have many options…
