"Green" Campaign
Cologne, 26 October 2010. The automotive branch has put "green" sustainability right at the top of the agenda. Accordingly, MOTUL has now launched two new efficiency-enhancing car motor oils. These are the two fully synthetic motor oils MOTUL 8100 Eco-nergy SAE 0W30 and MOTUL 8100 Eco-clean SAE 0W30. Both products reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions, thus making a contribution to environmental protection.
"More than ever before, lubricants play a crucial role in the activities of vehicle manufacturers when it comes to enhancing efficiency and "green" sustainability", says Alexander Hornoff, Technical Director at MOTUL Deutschland GmbH. Nowadays motor oils are integrated right from the start in the development process of car manufacturers, particularly in terms of trendsetting engine technology, so that they are adapted precisely to the corresponding requirements. MOTUL's current answer to the efforts by the automotive industry along the lines of "clean drives" is called MOTUL 8100 Eco-nergy SAE 0W30 and MOTUL 8100 Eco-clean SAE 0W30. The two new products offer lowered HTHS viscosity (High Temperature High Shear Rate) to reduce fuel consumption. Consequently, carbon emissions are reduced, thus protecting the environment. The two new motor oils MOTUL 8100 Eco-nergy SAE 0W30 and MOTUL8100 Eco-clean SAE 0W30 continue the "green campaign" by the lubricant brand. Sustainability has a long tradition of being a major component in MOTUL's corporate philosophy. For example, MOTUL's Green Concept that addresses environmental and disposal issues for garages and specialist retailers is used successfully today by around 3,600 specialist retailers and garages.
The fully synthetic motor oil MOTUL 8100 Eco-nergy SAE 0W30 has been specially developed for Volvo engines from model year 2011. Volvo prescribes motor oil with viscosity SAE 0W30 and ACEA A5/B5 for the new generation of engines. Similarly, this product is also recommended for the Land Rover Td5 engines and for petrol and diesel engines that stipulate a motor oil with these specifications.
Thanks to reduced HTHS viscosity, the fully synthetic mid-SAPS motor oil MOTUL 8100 Eco-clean SAE 0W30 also offers numerous environment-friendly benefits. The innovative fuel with its enhanced fuel saving potential is prescribed particularly for the new diesel engines by Toyota, Honda and Subaru with diesel particulate filter. MOTUL 8100 Eco-clean SAE 0W30 offers outstanding wear protection together with improved soot absorption capability. Furthermore, the motor oil also shows good compatibility with biogenic fuels such as diesel B7 that contains seven percent rapeseed methyl ester, and ensures that engine and diesel particulate filter have a long service life.
"Our two new environment-friendly motor oils facilitate fuel savings compared to a reference oil with viscosity 15W40 above all during the cold-start phase, but also in standard driving patterns according to the new New European Driving Cycle (NEDC)", is how MOTUL Technical Director Hornoff summarises development progress with a view to the new motor oils, adding that MOTUL has thus once again successfully taken a further major step into the future.
