Motul is unanimously acknowledged as the specialist in synthetic lubricants and famous for its racing pedigree and partnerships in global racing. Maybe less known is the heavy-duty side of Motul’s lubricants range. Yet, it is the same level of innovation and passion that binds engineers with their machinery, and fuels Motul's drive for innovation in the field of heavy duty, power generators and truck lubrication. We chatted with Keith Johnson, head of heavy duty and power generation at Motul, to dive into the heavy machinery market.
KEITH JOHNSON: WE’RE A ONE STOP SHOP FOR ALL TRUCK AND HEAVY-DUTY LUBRICATION NEEDS
14.07.2022
Keith, can you explain Motul’s unique philosophy and client-centric approach?
We have a very clear focus on quality and durability. This means that, during all the processes of our production, from raw materials to additives and our test equipment, we maintain the highest levels of approval to create the best possible lubrication solution. Besides quality, we also focus on durability and aim to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of engines and machines. This saves costs, as engines stay in service longer, but the positive side-effect is ecological, as this creates less waste and fewer spare parts requiring replacement.
In the MotoGP field we noticed another partnership between Motul and the Italian company Pramac, which is producing power generators. Motul is also active in this market, correct?
Yes indeed, one of our strong working fields is power generators. It’s quite a specialisation as it often takes us two years of testing and development before we find the most durable and qualitative solution. Our engineers work very closely with our clients’ R&D departments. Being in such close contact with our clients, even small companies, is one of the keys of Motul’s success. We listen, learn, and develop together with our clients’ R&D teams and their engineers worldwide. We like to grow and think in terms of partnerships rather than having a standard supplier-client relationship. We believe it’s the only way to achieve outstanding performance and to build long-term relationships. In this case, we support the same racing team.
In terms of heavy-duty lubrications Motul is known for its innovative approach. What can we expect in the heavy-machinery market?
One of the new domains we’re developing into is Environmentally Acceptable Lubrications (EALs). This is not new for marine engines, but we are always looking for the next step ahead. We use the same approach, whether it’s synthetic, bio-based fuels, hybrid or coolants for electric engines. Technology is always evolving therefore the lubrication standards and engine requirements are subject to change. Our products are equally evolving to meet these new needs. Motul wants to be at the forefront of innovation and invests heavily in all-new, upcoming ecological technologies.
What are the benefits of Motul’s heavy duty lubricants?
Capitalising on our expertise to meet the constant demand for improved mechanical performance, Motul developed a high-performance range that meets and exceeds the standards demanded by industry OEMs and our customers. Our Tekma premium engine oils, for instance, are specially designed to reduce engine wear, improve fuel economy, and prevent mechanical failure even under the most severe operating conditions. We also provide a comprehensive range of maintenance products designed to perform to the highest industry standards while protecting the vehicles on a daily basis. Therefore, from manufacture through to running the finished product, Motul lubricates every phase. Few, if any, other lubricant brands can make the same claim.
