Victory for Guy Martin and two steps of the podium for Tyco Suzuki

18.08.2012

The Ulster Grand Prix celebrated its 90th anniversary this year. Since 1922, the greatest riders have faced up to each other on the Clady road course, then at Dunrod which is one of the few still in use.  In the purest tradition of racing on British roads, Dunrod even proclaims itself as “world’s fastest road course”!  During the week of 5-11th August events proceeded one after the other in the different categories until “The Big One”, the most prestigious Superbike race which marked the end of the meeting. Particularly impressive, these feature races take place with a large field and lead to legendary confrontations as was the case this time between Guy Martin and Michael Dunlop, a local rider.  For “The Big One” it was Guy Martin who crossed the finish line at the head of the field for Tyco Suzuki, the team for which Motul provides technical support.

The colourful rider is winner of numerous podiums at the Tourist Trophy, miraculously surviving several spectacular crashes such as at the 2010 TT and at the North West 200 in 2012.  Martin is a hero on the other side of the Channel.  “Here, the goal is always to win the feature race,” Martin confirmed. “I pushed to win the second Superbike race too but, at Dunrod, it’s the feature race which is important.  It’s a great reward for the whole team.”

Teammate Conor Cummins didn’t do badly and grabbed 3rd place, stating that “the bike worked really superbly.”  As for team owner Philip Neil, he couldn’t hide his delight: “To win the main Superbike race is what we all come to Dunrod for. [...] Both riders worked tirelessly with everyone on the team. This very fast circuit means that set up is extremely important.” Obviously, they did a good job.
