Motul and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (creator and organiser of the 24 Hours of Le Mans) should have had to wait until 2014 to celebrate a 60-year-old relationship begun in 1954. But the two partners, driven by the same passion for motorsports, have instead chosen 2013, which is the 90th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, to showcase and share their mutual memories at the Retromobile Show.
A true test for motor manufacturers, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has also been a living test bench for the lubricants specialist, Motul. Thus it was that in 1954, to support the launch of ‘Motul Century’ - the first wholly multigrade lubricant - Motul chose the Sarthe event to demonstrate the performance of its products. This real life product testing continued in 1971 with the launch of Motul 300V, the first 100% synthetic lubricant. Since then, this shared history has continued to be written successfully, so much so that at the start of the 2012 edition of the race last June no less than 14 vehicles carried the red and white logo of the French lubricants specialists. In total, Motul at Le Mans has sponsored 182 vehicles, had 13 class victories and supported 29 different marques including involvement at the 24 Hours Moto, a race won 10 times by teams benefitting from Motul’s technical support.
For the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, 2013 promises to be particularly great as it will also be celebrating a special birthday: 90 years of the most famous motor race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its presence at the Retromobile Show in partnership with Motul promises to be the first event within an extensive programme aimed at celebrating this 90th anniversary. For those endurance enthusiasts who find themselves in La Sarthe on 22nd-23rd June in order to attend the anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the sizeable plan of action put in place by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest will take their breath away.
