VUHL AND MOTUL: A PARTNERSHIP MADE IN AUTOMOTIVE HEAVEN

For its hardcore 05RR model, Mexican sportscar maker VUHL has once again chosen Motul to lubricate its powerful, lightweight road rocket. With 400hp, 500Nm of torque and only weighing 660kgs, the 05RR packs a powerful punch from an extremely small package. Iker Echeverria, co-founder of VUHL, talks us through why and how his cars benefit from Motul products.

From the 05RR's conception, Motul's 300V Competition engine oil was selected to deliver the highest performance in the most reliable way, both on the streets and while breaking international lap records. We use two lubricants for the engine: a mineral oil to bed in the engine, which we found was working really well in cleaning up the small particles. Funnily enough, we didn’t find this characteristic with other lubricants. Then we clean the engine with 300V, which on the dyno has proven to be the best one. In the end, we’ve been using Motul lubricants for many years and are very happy with them. 

Starting from 2022, a synergy between VUHL and Motul Mexico takes optimal performance and reliability to the next level: assuring the ultimate driving experience for every driver, by homologating the use of Motul lubricants and fluids throughout the VUHL lineup. The racing team in France was using Motul long before we started working with them as an official partner. We decided to just continue with that. When Motul came to us, it was seamless because all the product validation had been done for eight years already. Motul was already part of the company.

Motul is an important partner during the development stages of the next generation of ultralightweight vehicles, providing technical support during testing, thus ensuring that lap records at the circuit continue to be our specialty for years to come. As our sole official lubricant supplier, Motul is present in each vehicle's Manufacturer Recommendations plaques as well as the user manual. The name and prestige of Motul is very important for us and to have a big manufacturer giving us this support. Motul has a great presence in racing and is globally known. We’re very similar companies, too. We didn’t want to work with a big corporate structure, but with a company that was nimbler. Motul is very agile in the process and that is something that is really important.

We had been struggling a little bit with brake fluid. It was destroying some rubber parts in the pumps and cylinders. So, the tech team at Motul came up with a great solution. For us, it was very important having this kind of support because we’re not the experts in absolutely everything, like engines, or tyres or lubricants. We design it and specify it, but we have to pick the best partners to give us the best quality.
