OLIVER WEBB: THE FASTEST MAN ON INSTAGRAM!

Le Mans racer, Supercar driver, travelling the world. Oliver Webb does it all. But apart from being incredibly fast, he really has an eye for images. That easily makes him one of the most popular drivers on social media. But when it really comes to it, he just wants to win Le Mans.

 

Oliver, we know you from the track at the WEC, but a lot of people know you from your Supercar traveler lifestyle. How would you describe yourself? As a racing driver?

I would describe myself as a professional racing and stunt driver with a passion for supercars and the road. I do get involved a lot with the supercar lifestyle. I run a supercar track day, I coach a lot of supercar drivers and I collaborate often with supercar clubs. We’ve reached a point in the industry where supercars and race cars grew much closer to each other.

 

Oliver, we know you from the track at the WEC, but a lot of people know you from your Supercar traveler lifestyle. How would you describe yourself? As a racing driver?

Has that changed over the years?

Yes absolutely, it definitely wasn’t always the case. Especially with the track focused supercars that are being released today. That has made a big change.

 

I believe you might be THE driver from the entire paddock that really understands how social media work. How do you implement it in your daily life?

I’m doing pretty well, I guess. There are of course a few Formula one drivers out there that play the game on an even bigger scale. I made it a part of my life because it really helps me out when it comes to attracting partners and attacking new people and events. I also try to use it in a way it benefits my partners so it might help them sell their product. On the other hand, it’s always good for sharing great race results.

 

I believe you might be THE driver from the entire paddock that really understands how social media work. How do you implement it in your daily life?

What’s your secret to being successful on social media?

There actually isn’t one. I believe I got a bit lucky. My customers have very impressive supercar collections, so those great cars do well on social media. I studied photography and videography at school and I pursued it very heavily. I will always try and create my own content rather than reposting something that already exists.

 

What would you prefer: Le Mans in an LMP1 car or Yas marina in a McLaren P1 GTR or Senna?

Easy, Le Mans in an LMP1. By a mile.

You’ve obviously have driven loads of cars. Is there one that really sticks out?

The McLaren Senna GTR that’s coming out soon is amazing and really sticks out besides this one, the BAC Mono is an incredible experience to drive.

 

Speaking of BAC mono, you are also the lead development driver for BAC Mono. How did that happen?

I am working with BAC Mono for six years now. The first BAC Mono I ever drove was the first car they’d ever built. Since that day I tested every car that came out of the factory. They’re at one hundred cars now. It all started when they were building and painting their first car at a farm of a friend of mine. Neil Brigs, one of the owners, called me and asked me if I wanted to test a car that was quite new.

 

Speaking of BAC mono, you are also the lead development driver for BAC Mono. How did that happen?

For those who are foreign to the concept describe the experience of a BAC Mono?

It’s a Formula one car for the road. That’s what it essentially is.

 

How usable is it on the public road and what’s the longest distance you’ve ever driven one?

It surprises some people how good it is as a road car. It’s actually quite comfortable. You can drive it to the track, go flat out and then quietly drive it back. I’ve driven them all over Europe, so I’ve lost track how far I’ve driven one. The only downside to it, is when it’s pouring with rain…

 

What’s your ambition for next season? And those to come?

The same goal I have every season. Which is to win Le Mans. I’ve come close before, with a podium place but it’s my personal dream to win in my class and especially overall.

One last question, are you ever at home?

(Laughs) No not very often. I’m always travelling. This year I was home for about fifty days or so. But I love doing it, so I don’t mind at all.
