DAKAR RIDER NAVIGATES NISSAN THROUGH BRONKHORSTSPRUIT

The already legendary rider Joey Evans, famous for finishing the Dakar rally ten years after an accident that left him partly paralysed, joined Redlined-Motorsport’s Terrence Marsh in his Nissan Navara Dakar to navigate him through the fields of Bronkhorstspruit.

 

 

 

Ten years ago, Joey Evans had a motorbike accident which broke his back and left him paralysed from the waist down. Luckily the fracture in his back was less serious than expected, and bit by bit Evans began to regain some control over his legs. He set himself the challenge of finishing the Dakar. All this when the doctors had told him he’d probably never ride a motorbike again. Last year, he entered one of the toughest Dakar rallies in the history of the competition and finished it.

 

 

 

The Atlas Copco 400 in Bronkhorstspruit is part of the South African Cross country championship, one of the toughest rally raid competitions, so navigating through the fields, dust and loose rocks of the South African for the first time, while keeping pace with Terrence, was a huge challenge for this local celebrity. According to driver Terrence Marsh, he was like a duck in the water and a swift learner. And that was clear from their great result, finishing 8th overall and 4th in class.
