AUSTRALIAN SUPERCAR RACER TODD HAZELWOOD AND MOTUL JOIN FORCES

Last week Motul and young gun racer Todd Hazelwood joined forces for the 2022 Australian Supercar Championship. Todd is currently racing the Holden supercar with the team at Matt Stone Racing. With a pole position and podium now under his belt, Todd is working and racing harder than ever to achieve his very first race win in the 2022 Supercar Championship. As the championship is very restricted in terms of technical adjustments, his never-ending quest for speed and performance led him into the arms of Motul. We had a chat with Todd Hazelwood about the upcoming season and Dean Rothapfel, business development manager at Motul, on the new collaboration.

I’m quite excited about it. Our goals are ambitious because we’ll have a faster car in 2022. So, things are looking good. The first race is Beaurepaires in Sydney is only two weeks away, so the tension is starting to rise. Everything is new in 2022: the team, the car, my teammate Jack Le Brocq and even the mechanics. We have been testing the new Holden MSR Commodore extensively for the past few weeks and we’re making good progress. As this is the pinnacle of racing, and we’re almost racing over 1,000 kilometers during the weekend, everything must be perfectly planned and prepared. We are aiming for the podium.

It’s a very technical partnership. The regulations in the Supercar Championship are tight and do not allow a lot of inventive engineering or modifications. The scrutineering is also very severe. It’s hard to take advantage of your competitors, and we’re always on the lookout for every extra horsepower within the limits of the technical homologation. Motul has a proven track record in winning endurance championships oversees such as in the 24h of Le Mans and in Daytona. We know that in terms of reliability and performance, we can trust the brand. We use the Motul 300V oil for lubrication of our Holden ZB Commodore Supercar, but equally the greases, coolant liquid, brake, and transaxle fluid plus the biodegradable Car Care range.

The team is great. We have high ambitions for this season. Jack and I have been racing for many years, fighting several hard battles on the track. He is the absolute best. The testing days we’ve been doing have been very fruitful. We are united and moving forward as a team. We’re also likeminded. Of course, we’re both going 100% for the win but the final point of view is always respect.

The Supercar Championship is big here in Australia and is the closest we have towards ‘normal’ road cars. It’s also the largest car racing championship here in Australia. By linking our brand to promising young guns such as Todd and Jack, we’re aiming to become a real consumer brand, and this also helps in growing the brand in the consumer market. We wish Todd and the team all the best for this upcoming season, and are quite confident that our flagship lubricant product,Motul 300V, will contribute to their performance and success in 2022.
