WHY ARE GOOD QUALITY LUBRICANTS SO IMPORTANT FOR CITY MOTORCYCLES?

You might think lubricants are only important for high-performance racing machines, but even when it comes to day-to-day riding and commuting, quality oils are vital. This is the reason why Peugeot Motocycles entered into an official lubrication partnership with Motul for its range of urban motorcycles. We paid a visit to the Peugeot Motocycles factory at Mandeure, France, to see the process behind building a motorcycle. And met with Olivier Cattani, head of product at Peugeot Motocycles, to find out why lubricants are so important for city riding and why his company, the oldest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, decided to partner with Motul.

We are producing the Pulsion and Peugeot Metropolis here. This factory has been in use for more than 100 years.

The Peugeot motorcycles are being used for commuting and city use, therefore we need good braking performance in order to offer the right level of safety. And we need oils of a good quality for the engines, which suffer a lot. Because of frequent stops during city use they reach high temperatures, and the engines are being stressed quite quickly.

In order to deliver the best motorcycles possible, we need to surround ourselves with the best technical partners in each field. In terms of lubrication, for the engine oil, braking oil and other fluids, we have chosen to partner with Motul who have a very high level of technical experience, a good reputation and deep knowledge of their products. On top of this technical knowledge, the two brands are French and have a long heritage, each in their domain. We thought it was the perfect fit for us.

But we know city riding can be demanding on motorcycles, so we wanted a partner that can help us provide the performance and reliability our customers expect, but one that also shares our heritage, vision and passion for innovation.

All new Peugeot Motocycles will be factory filled with Motul’s proven four-stroke engine oils, as well as transmission, gear and brake fluids, at Peugeot Motocycles’s production facilities in France and China. As well as this, Peugeot motorcycles will be service filled with Motul’s products, including our range of two-and-four stroke engine oil.

The two companies also recently unveiled a co-branded range of lubricants, Street Rider 2T, which has been developed for two-stroke scooters, and City Rider 4T 5W-40 for four-stroke scooters and maxi-scooters.
