Rétromobile 2020: Motul pays homage to the stars

Rétromobile is without doubt one of the most important events on the classic car calendar. Three giant halls filled with heritage and history on the outskirts of Paris. While most booths were often an eclectic collection of cars and bikes, many for sale, Motul had other priorities: successfully revealing the new car care line up that treats these classic cars as the stars they quite rightly are.

Motul, the primary partner for Rétromobile 2020, knocked the ball out of the park with a booth that had more in common with a filmset or a cinema than a classic car show. That left only room for two cars. But these weren’t any ordinary cars. They were two movie icons.

The first was Herbie, the cute little Volkswagen Beetle with a human soul. Originally created by Walt Disney, Herbie has warmed people’s hearts since the sixties. This Herbie, now a prop in our very own Motul Photo Booth, was initially discovered and sourced by Movie Car Central’s Franck Galiegue.

The other star of the show was the Ford GT40, a car similar to the one that won Le Mans in 1966. It recently appeared in the Academy Award-winning movie Le Mans 66. If there’s was an award for most photographed car, this would be in the running.

While most of the booths were filled with the ‘usual’ classic cars such as Mustangs, Aston Martins, Triumphs and pre-war machines, it was noticeable just how much of a shift there has been in the classic car scene.

Machines from the fifties or sixties shared space with cars from the eighties, nineties and 2000s. It was surprising to see so many ‘modern’ cars there. But then again, it’s easy to forget that a car dating from the year 2000 is now officially a 20-year-old car. Some distinguishable highlights of the show included Michael Schumacher’s first-ever Ferrari F1 car, as well as the Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello that won the 2004 24 hours of Spa.
