Motul at its best at Le Mans

This year, Motul was present in force at the Le Mans 24 Hours as technical partner to a number of teams that were potential victory candidates in their respective categories, and also through operations that reveal the burning passion of the brand and its innovative spirit.

 

 

During the Drivers’ Parade Motul brought together 11 TVRs representing several decades of the history of the British manufacturer. Spearheading this exhibition was the new Griffith launched in 2017 at the Goodwood Revival, which crossed the Channel for the first time. It is the only model built so far while awaiting the imminent launch of the Griffith’s production.

 

This jaw-dropping car then went to the Motul booth in the 24-Hours Fanzone where thousands of visitors were given a warm welcome and told about Motul products. Next stop the Rebellion team that carries the TVR colours and uses Motul technology in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The Swiss team, back in LM P1, led the non-hybrid cars throughout the whole week. The #1 R13-Gibson driven by Thomas Laurent, Mathias Beche and Gustavo Menezes saw the chequered flag in third place overall!

 

 

 

Motul developed a prototype oil specifically for Rebellion and Dragonspeed, the technical partner teams involved in LM P1. Their cars are powered by the Gibson engine and the British company has also signed a technical partnership with Motul. This extends to the provision of the famous 300V oil to all the LM P2 prototypes as Gibson is the exclusive engine supplier for the category. Graff Racing, winner of the under 2-litre Group 6 class in 1981 with Motul, has undergone a major evolution since those days, but its passion for performance remains as strong as ever. Tristan Gommendy, Jonathan Hirschi and Vincent Capillaire carried the Graff Racing-So24 and Motul colours to second place in the P2 category. Just behind, another Motul team, United Autosports, clinched third with Juan Pablo Montoya, Will Owen and Hugo de Sadeleer. Singapore-based outfit, Clearwater Racing, finished eighth in the hotly-contested LM GTE Am category only three laps behind the winner.

 

 

 

In the area of novelties in 2018, Motul’s Top Speed gave spectators food for dreams as on the giant screens around the circuit they could see the maximum speed recorded in each category at the end of each hour’s racing. Strangely enough, the highest overall speed posted was by an LM P2 with 343.4 km/h on lap 8 of the race.

 

And finally, the Motul Superfan concept invented three years ago in the exclusive context of MotoGP was modified to suit the Le Mans 24 Hours Motos last April and it was applied to the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time this year. Geoffrey, the winner of the operation, took part in the Parade in the Motul bus and then in the gridwalk before climbing into a helicopter to see the start. He was also able to meet several drivers and team members entered in the race that left him with a raft of unforgettable memories of the greatest endurance race in the world.
